I’m pleased to update you on some changes ahead for SpeechBox. Over the past five years we’ve been working hard to develop SpeechBox into a powerful, award winning app for speech language therapy. We want to continue to grow and offer the features and support you’ve come to expect of us. In order to do this, while still retaining our quality standards, we’re announcing a pricing change effective December 1st, 2018. Existing users, read on, we aim to make this an easy transition for you.
SpeechBox launched six years ago in 2012. We’ve worked over the years to add tremendous value (Data Collection, Box Sharing, New Content, etc.) and maintain the app for you (fixing bugs, data storage, etc.). However, as you can imagine, a one-time purchase of the app makes it hard to cover these costs over time. Since the majority of our users are still with us, we need to make a change for us to be able to continue to improve SpeechBox for all.
As a result, we’re going to offer you a selection of three subscription plans starting at $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year. You can decide which plan fits best for you and give it a try at no cost. If you aren’t satisfied or if SpeechBox no longer fits your need, there is no risk to you as you can cancel at any time. We believe this is much better than paying a large sum up front for the app.
Here is some of the additional value we are bringing to you as a result of this change:
Additional content is FREE! Honestly, it’s very costly for us to curate and release new boxes in the Box Store. With this change, we’re going to bring you fresh new Boxes on a regular basis. Our Box Store is now the Box Depot! And the best part, we’ll include this with your plan at no extra charge (with a pro or elite subscription). As of this writing, we have over 25 additional Boxes in the Box Depot.
Simple Sentences! As you may know, we’ve been focused on the practice of simple words with our users. However, many of our users outgrow simple word practice. So, coming soon, we will begin to include simple sentences that will allow users to continue using SpeechBox as they progress with their therapy.
Localization! Users have asked for this for years, but we haven’t been able to afford it. We realize not every user speaks English, so we’re so happy to be able to open SpeechBox up to children (and adults) who speak other languages. We’re starting with Spanish and will add additional later on (i.e. Italian and French).
Artificial Intelligence (AI). This feature is top secret, but let me give you a short teaser. Many of our users spend lots of time adding their own photos to boxes, with the aim of teaching the users how to recognize familiar objects. We recognized this need and are building a platform that takes advantage of machine learning to make SpeechBox a more interactive learning experience. Sorry, that’s all we can say now. We’ll have another announcement when it’s launched (very soon!).
We’ve added a CCC-SLP to our staff! As you may know, SpeechBox was created by a Dad whose son has Apraxia of Speech. We’ve had lots of help from professionals over the years, but we really wanted to step it up a notch (or two). So, we’re pleased to announce that Nicole Gerber, M.A. CCC-SLP will be joining us as a partner and staff educator! Some things she’ll be working on include curating new content and providing training to our users. We’re super excited to have her join the SpeechBox family.
Current users have no fear. As mentioned above, we have something planned to make this an easy transition for you. As a thank you for all of your loyal years of usage, we’re going to give you a ONE YEAR subscription for FREE**. You can take the next 365 days to decide if we are adding enough value for you and make sure SpeechBox fits in your bucket of therapy tools.
So, to sum up the changes:

> We’re offering three tiers to make it affordable for all.
> New users get a no-risk 30 day free trial for any plan.
> These changes will go into effect December 1st, 2018.
> We have outstanding features planned as part of this transition.
> We now have a full time CCC-SLP working with us.
