App Developer Dad’s First App for Special Needs Children Wins Best App Ever Awards [Press Release]

SpeechBox for iPad developed after Son’s Apraxia diagnosis, wins 5th Annual “Best App Ever Awards”, Special Needs Category.

GLEN ROCK, New Jersey, February 26, 2013 – Today, The Jonah Bonah Learning Company, LLC’s flagship product, SpeechBox™ app for Apple’s iPad has been voted Best Special Needs App in the “Best App Ever Awards”. Created by the editors of 148Apps, the “Best App Ever Awards” began after the Apple App Store opened in July 2008 to gather together the favorite apps of real users. The awards are now in their fifth year and the winners are determined by millions of the 148Apps readers.

SpeechBox™’s award was announced at the “Best App Ever” Awards during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. SpeechBox™ was selected over several popular apps including Speak for Yourself by Speak for Yourself LLC, First Then Visual Schedule by Good Karma Applications, Inc, and Special Words by Special iApps.

“I was deeply honored to have been selected. I’m incredibly thankful of the support received from our users,” said Henry T. Kirk, the app developer and Dad behind SpeechBox™. “It is extremely encouraging and motivates me to continue my quest developing useful apps for children with special needs. ”

SpeechBox™ is a word-practice app designed to work for children with Apraxia of Speech, Autism, Down syndrome, and other speech language disorders. With its beautiful interface and over 700 engaging colorful pictures, parents, educators, speech-language pathologists, and others can use it to help children practice speaking simple words.

SpeechBox™ was conceived after becoming frustrated from the inefficiencies of other apps and the desire to help his son succeed. “While using the only apps that were available, I quickly discovered how complex some of them were. I had no idea how to get started. When I finally got through all of the menus and was ready to work, I found myself skipping most of the words because they were just not simple enough for my son to practice with. I also found him getting bored because the pictures weren’t very exciting to look at,” says Mr. Kirk.
